The story of Luv and Kush comes just after the Ramayana when Rama becomes the king.
The main characters of this story are Rama, Sita, Luv, Kush, and Sage Valmiki.
The story starts when Rama and Sita are sitting on their thrones and discussing the court matters at the palace. A villager comes and tells Rama that he can’t say the problem because Sita is there. When Sita left the villager says that he has heard people spreading rumours about Sita. When the villager left, Rama asked his brother Lakshmana to take Sita to the jungle.
For some time, Sita roamed in the jungle until she saw a snake, so she climbed a tree and saw a Sage and said “Sage Valmiki” in a surprised voice. Sage Valmiki told Sita that the snake was his and that she could stay in his hut. Some days later, Sita learned that she was pregnant and soon had twins.
The twins were called Luv and Kush. They learned the Vedas, the Puranas and archery from Sage Valmiki. He also told them about the Ramayana and replaced Sita with Vidhi. After some months, in the palace, Rama was preparing for the Ashvamedha yagna.
There was going to be a sacrificial horse that was going towards the jungle Luv and Kush were playing. When Luv and Kush saw the horse, they said to each other “Let’s go and capture the horse” they tied it up to a tree and a soldier told them to give the horse they said, “Don’t beg instead fight” Luv and Kush fought versus the army and the twins won. Rama sent one of his brothers and another group of armies. But Luv and Kush made the brother unconscious and defeated the army. This continued for a long time and at the end Rama came and met Luv and Kush for the first time. He was very surprised to learn that they were his sons!
