Amongst all the chapter books that I have read, Matilda is my favorite. Matilda is written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
The story is about a five-year-old girl, Matilda, who loves to read books. Matilda’s parents, Mr and Mrs Wormwood are often rude to her. They don’t like books and they always watch TV. So Matilda goes to the library all by herself. The librarian becomes her friend and she is amazed by Matilda’s knowledge. Matilda’s father is a car dealer but he cheats his customers. Matilda does not like this and tells her father that all this is very wrong. In school, she becomes good friends with her class teacher, Miss Honey. She also helps Miss Honey to get back her house from the evil and scary headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who is also Miss Honey’s aunt.

Spoiler Alert!

In the end, I was very very happy just like Matilda because she could live with Miss Honey forever.
There are a lot of funny parts in the story- for example, when one of her classmates, Bruce Bogtrotter, had to eat an entire chocolate cake all by himself. In another chapter, Matilda’s friend, Lavender, took a slimy worm from a puddle near her house and put it into Miss Trunchbull’s glass of water the next day. The funniest and the most exciting part of the story was when Matilda made chalk fly and write on the board and everyone thought that there was a ghost in the classroom! But only Miss Honey and Matilda know the truth!

I did not like that Matilda’s parents were rude and cheated people. Miss Trunchbull was so mean to Miss Honey and she was also very strict with the school children and even locked them up in a spiky cupboard she called ‘Chokey’.

I loved the cover and the illustration of the book so much that I even tried making it after my art class.

I give this book 5 stars.
